Dr. Selwa has 25 years of experience as a clinical epileptologist, supported researcher, and epilepsy educator. She directs one of the largest epilepsy fellowship training programs in the country.  She also provides clinical oversight for a department of 54 neurologists.  Dr. Selwa is a Fellow of the American Academy of Neurology (AAN), with many years of service on the education and annual meeting committees for that organization.   For the last two years, she has spearheaded a national Brain Fair to enable nationally-recognized speakers to provide direct neuroscience education to the public at the AAN’s annual meeting.

Dr. Selwa’s research interests are in the field of cognition and epilepsy, including long-term cognitive outcomes with and without epilepsy surgery, sleep and epilepsy, and quality of life outcomes for epilepsy patients.  Selected publications on these topics are listed below.  She has received support from projects funded by the NIH and CDC.  Through the EFA and local outreach efforts, she has provided direct patient education to raise awareness about self-management.  She continues to be passionate about illuminating the long-term cognitive and social effects of epilepsy and its treatment, and the role played by the patient in determining outcomes.
