Our Mission

To advance the science related to epilepsy self-management by facilitating and implementing research, conducting research in collaboration with network and community stakeholders, and broadly disseminating the findings of research.

History

The Beginning

The MEW Network was established in 2007 with support from the CDC Epilepsy Program and Prevention Research Centers' Program (PRCs). The MEW Network conducts research together with community leaders (such as local Epilepsy Foundation affiliates) and shares findings with the epilepsy community. Our primary goal was set in 2007, and has carried through to the present: develop and test self-management programs and tools for people with epilepsy and healthcare providers.

Our last cycle (2014-2019)

Through a combination of research-based and community-based participation, over 1,000 people with epilepsy participated in a MEW Network self-management program during our last cycle. Over 130 program facilitators were trained, spanning 20 states. The Network collaborated with over 35 community, clinical/academic, and state/regional organizations. Members of the Network shared program information and research findings through 65 publications, and over 100 presentations.
